I am a novice at computers. When I click to open a folder, how do I open that folder so messages can be moved to it?

What more can I say? I click on "Folder". The folder appears in my list of Folders---but what are the steps I must take to OPEN that folder so that messages can be moved to it?

Chosen solution

Not sure what folders you are talking about. The normal folders that appear in the folder pane of the Thunderbird window do not require opening and the drag and drop or move to method is the way it works.

If you are trying to move to some folder outside your Thunderbird profile I cannot help you.

You click the folder where the messages exist. Select the messages to move and the drag them to the new folder and drop them there.

You can also right click the selected messages and select Move To.

I have opened folders before, but can't remember how I did it. I seem to remember that I clicked on "Open" somewhere---and then I could move e-mails from my Inbox into the desired folder. I tried your suggestions but they didn't work. I cannot drag the e-mail and drop it in the folder. I have moved messages from the Inbox to folders with ease in the past, but when I click Messages and go down to "Move to" my folder isn't recognized---I think because it is not yet open to receive. Should I have "Open" somewhere in my Tool Bar, and, if so, how do I put it there?

I need to open a new/additional folder than the ones that I currently have. How do I do this?

Thanks so much.

You would be creating a new folder not opening one.

Select the existing folder where you want to create a new one under.

Then from the menu bar select File-New-Folder

After selecting an existing folder and go to the menu bar, When I click "File" there are no options for "new" or "new folder"?

I feel so stupid at this.

If there is no New Folder under File you are not using the menu bar as described above. If you insist on using the AppMenu button look under New Message for New Folder. Yea I know, it makes no sense and is why a avoid directing anyone to the crazy AppMenu button.

FYI: If you have no menu bar showing you can press the alt key to make it appear..

Sorry to be so thick at this. I was accessing what I thought was the menu bar on the upper right hand side with three horizontal lines. When I tried on the upper left hand side your instructions worked perfectly!

Thanks ever so much!
