Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) is an official version of Firefox developed for large organizations like universities and businesses that need to set up and maintain Firefox on a large scale. Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes. You can download Firefox Extended Support Release for your operating system and language from the Firefox ESR download page.
If your browsing history or saved session is important, you can use one of these workarounds BEFORE you install Firefox 52 ESR:
- Open your current Firefox version, bookmark important sites from your history, manually create a bookmark backup file to make sure all bookmarks are saved and, if you want Firefox to open with your current tabs, set your home page to use current pages.
- Open your current Firefox version and sync your history and other important settings. Create a new profile for ESR (if you use the about:profiles method, make SURE to select the Set as default profile option for the new profile) and then exit the Profile Manager or close Firefox. After you install Firefox ESR, sign in to Sync with the new profile.
