Using Nord VPN:
All gmail accounts are set up for imap on Thunderbird:
1) With VPN on, I cannot send/receive emails from/to my gmail accounts using Thunderbird. 2) With VPN off, I can send/receive emails from/to my gmail accounts 3) With VPN on or off and logged directly on mail.google.com, I am able to send/receive emails
And, yes, I have tried different port numbers and all server info is correct for imap on Thunderbird as indicated by #2 above. This change happened overnight and Thunderbird always worked faultlessly with Nord VPN for years. I don't think we can blame Nord VPN for this, given #3 above.
Your thoughts?

I have been using Thunderbird for my e mail for decades, and always with the IEEE email service as the address. As a result my address on IEEE.org has been my standard identity for at least 30 years, and Thunderbird has been my means of communication with it. However the IEEE has now removed Mozilla and Thunderbird as a means of communication with the e mails arriving on their website. It is now necessary to use a google controlled app which is unfamiliar to me, does not provide service to my personal machine and seems to sort through and remove contacts without asking. Complaining to IEEE seems to be pointless. I personally do not like to have all my contacts and private data passing through Google as it seems intrusive and tries to control every aspect of my internet contact including my cell phone. I understand that this action of IEEE is against all e mail programs other than gmail which is actually running their site I do not know how to extricate myself from the IEEE server while maintaining all of my previous contacts. I thought I should write to outline the problem I am facing and to ask where I can find a reliable e mail server after this debacle. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi - I have been looking for over 2 days. How do I import all my data (emails, addresses calendar) from Outlook to Thunderbird.
I have tried Import tool within Thunderbird - import from Outlook. I tried MailStore and was totally confused - the terminology was strange. I managed to make an archive - it took ages to find where it was and I still do not know the file extension.
No videos...nothing.

I installed the current version of Thunderbird yesterday. I am using IMAP. It is only showing the emails received since yesterday - nothing older. I can see the older emails via my ISP browser based webmail interface.
I have tried recreating the account settings, synchronising All, synchronising past 5 years - but it stubbornly refuses to fetch the older emails.
What other steps can I take to resovle this?

Whenever I open a message from the inbox into its own window, the message text and images are tiny and unreadable until I zoom (Shift-Cmd-+) them larger. And when I reply to a message, the text is also starts out tiny, but gets larger when I Zoom it up with the original message. Similarly, the column-header icons of the inbox are tiny, while the text is OK.
All the rest of the interface is normal and readable, except for the tiny text and buttons in the interface-command/confirmation boxes.
I have experimented with the suggestions in these question-replies, but to no avail:

I can adjust the font size and density from the "hamburger menu", just fine. And the MacOS 15.3.n-on-Intel settings seem right.
What am I missing? What else is there to change?

Hi, I have just set-up 2 new Hotmail accounts & checked them both etc & both are working perfectly through Outlook. I also have 2 old/existing Hotmail accounts that too are working perfectly through both Outlook & Thunderbird. All accounts are set-up in Thunderbird using POP3 using OAuth2 authentification for both POP3 & SMTP servers. Unfortunately, I am having trouble adding both the 2 new Hotmail accounts to Thunderbird. When adding an account & inputting "Name", "Email Address" & "Password" & then enter I receive the message in a green bar stating "Configuration found in Mozilla ISP database"............brilliant !!! I then select the "POP3" button & hit the box "Done" Normally, all would be accepted to which I would finally click on the box "Finish" & my account would be added. Instead, I now get an error message in a yellow box stating "Unable to log in at srver. Probably wrong configuration, username or password" ? These are 2 new Hotmail accounts I have only JUST set-up. The details entered are all correct & log me into Outlook with no problems & work perfectly sending & receiving. As for "Configuration" I just let Thunderbird set the POP3 settings as done with the 2 old/existing Hotmail accounts which go in perfectly through Thunderbird. Is there something causing this with new hotmail accounts ?

I just got a new computer for my business and I installed the newest version of thunderbird and my invoicing software QuickBooks 2020. For some reason Thunderbird is not popping up in the "send forms" section of QuickBooks to allow to send invoices to my customers. On my old PC "Mozilla Thunderbird" popped up as an option and on my new PC there no option. I'm still using the same version of QuickBooks as before the only thing that changed is I went from windows 10 to 11 and from a 2020 version of Thunderbird to one I installed on Feb 2025. I tried setting it up manually and i cant get it to work. I also read only that this is common with the newer versions, is there any way to make the newer version of Thunderbird work with QuickBooks? My stored folders are there.
I have tried importing using Thunderbird Tools Import From a Thunderbird Installation Choose a Profile folder I have then entered various levels of above backup They all say complete without actually transferring any data.
The current level of Thunderbird I have installed is 128.7.1esr.. Since this is different from the backup could that have an effect or am I missing a step in the import procedure?

Running windows 11 in S mode, Spectrum email. I had been using Outlook but on 11 February, it stopped working. Wouldn't send nor receive. Webmail works fine. Downloaded Thunderbird. Set up my account and started receiving emails. Went to send an email, and it failed to send. Checked all settings and they match Spectrum's server settings.
Trying to troubleshoot, but struggled with directions on the internet. Tried to load developer tools and nothing happened. Found I could open the error console with keypad. The error console says "Could not start Browser Toolbox, you need to enable it." Could not find out how to enable it.
When I attempt to send email, three messages show up in the error console. "NetworkTimeoutError: a Network error occurred SmtpClient.sys.mjs:476:17" "SecurityError info: SmtpClient.sys.mjs:492:21" Note, no error text was displayed. "Sending failed: ... server (SMTP) timed out.... MessageSend.sys.mjs:341:32"
When I first started running Thunderbird, I remember a certificate error with the Spectrum certificate. I enabled an exception and was able to receive email. Thinking this might be related to the security error on receiving, I wanted to remove the certificate exception so I could see the reason for the security error on receiving. Comments say it is stored in the profile. If I try to open the profile, Thunderbird says profile not found. I found the profiles, but the path to them is not the path listed under Troubleshooting Information\About Profiles.
My primary issue is not being able to send emails. I would also like to know how to remove the certificate exception.
Can you help please? I can´t sen emails. Best, Maria
