Firefox and Seamonkey sharing profiles

Hi

I'm a web developer who's just come across Sea Monkey, when looking for a good Open Source alternative to Dreamweaver as SM has what looks like a tasty HTML editor bundled which I'd like to use. I'm also a long-time faithful (and very happy :o)) Firefox user. Is there an easy way of making SM and FF share the same profiles, so that I can share bookmarks, passwords, settings, etc?

According to a page on the FF/SM differences, it would appear not as:

"Firefox and Thunderbird also use their own profile registries, whereas SeaMonkey stores both browser and mail settings in the same profile."

As a tangential question, do developers on here think that SM or FF are better as devt and testing platforms? The same extensions (eg Web Developer) seem to be available for both, and of course SM has the built in editor.

There isn't a way for them to share profiles (that I know of) that wouldn't lead to possible data loss. However, with the newest versions of Seamonkey, you can use Firefox Sync to connect them. http://www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/sync

As to which is better, it's honestly personal preference. firefox 14 has some awesome developer tools, and more are coming down the pipe, but it's really up to you on what you like best.

Thanks, Tyler, that's very helpful, and has solved another question of mine about synching from server to desktop - I can synch from SM to FF and that will fetch data from the server.

The main developer tools I use are:

  1. Chris Pederick's Web Developer
  2. Colorzilla
  3. Firebug

Only Colorzilla is currently available for SM, so for development purposes I'll stick to FF for the time being. However, I'm sure that SM versions of Web Developer and Firebug will emerge in time.
