I have installed jre 7u5 several times. However there is nt java plugin in addons->plugins. Hence I can not see java pages. My firefox version is 14.

Did you close your browser while/after the installation? If you didn't, there's a good chance that's the reason you're not seeing the plugin.
I even restart the system!!
I'm not sure about this, but if the browser is running during the installation, Java might simply not start the plug-in installation. Try installing it again when the browser is not running.
nothing changed.... maybe because i have updated from 13 to 14

Did you install the 32 bit Java version?
