why do sometimes text symbols appear as boxes with numbers/letters in them ?

i have changed the encoding from western(iso-8859-1) to Unicode (utf-8) as some friend of mine suggested but nothing is changed

You see little boxes with the hex code if you do not have a font that covers that Unicode range. ❀‿❀

You can try DejaVu Sans and Symbola to see if that brings some of them.
