I cannot hear the person I video chat with but they hear me.

I have checked my settings--video/audio and they are in working order. This problem: I can see person I video chat but cannot hear them while they can both see and hear me--has occurred within the last few weeks. When I try and use another browser (Safari) I can hear the person but I cannot see them while they can both see and hear me.
