I update a web page on the server but the update does not show if I go to that page in Firefox until I use reload (refresh).

You can change a hidden preference which will force Firefox to load the new page.

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. Locate the preference browser.cache.check_doc_frequency, double-click on it and change its value to 1

For details on the possible values for that preference see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.cache.check_doc_frequency

Thanks Tony,

As a newbie Firefox user I would never have found those configs. I think it was a tick box in IE and a drop down list in Opera. I can see all those other configs must be great for you experts.

I am actually trying to turn the refresh feature off. I find it frustrating when I accidentally hit the back button and when I return to my page, all of my info has been refreshed and deleted.

I wasn't able to change things, based on these instructions. Is there another way? (I'm using Firefox 4.0.1)

I have it set to 1 but it does not seem to work. Is there another way to FORCE a reload?

I have read the above trying to fix my problem. I view a web page on a server that is updated continuously, for example every couple of seconds. This generates message, "Firefox has prevented this page reloading automatically". I understand the risk of reloading and redirecting problems. However for this one web page I would like to have an exception to continually reload the web page as the data is dynamic. Your Firefox may show the problem I have the URL below. The list of people connected constantly updates (well every few seconds)

I changed it to 1 but it still isn't working. Anyone else have a solution or do I need to revert to the old Firefox - I have to say, as I continue to use the new version each day, I am more and more disappointed and the resources on my computer skyrocket with this version as well....UGH

I also changed it to 1, but it is still not working.
