Mine works with Google? All the messages from this forum arrive via a google email address into Thunderbird.
My version 153.4.0
So perhaps you need to explain the issue that is occurring, and provide details appropriate to someone actually assisting you like the mail provider and any security software you use including versions.
Perhaps there is a message about not receiving mail that mentions security? try quoting it verbatim.
Or you might just have an antivirus program that is corrupting your chain of trust with self signed certificates and the issue has nothing to do with Thunderbird and Google and everything to do with the antivirus that thinks scanning mail is important that a stable chain of trust. I really do not know.

Firstly, my thanks for Matt's contribution. It seems that raising this problem with Thunderbird also helped and I am now able to send and receive emails again.
