bookmarks have disappeared and nothing seems to work to retreive them
this is a recurring issue that has been resolved several times. I'm not sure how. often I flail away at the suggested fixes until something happens and they return.

Firefox should have saved some bookmarks for you. settings - bookmarks - manage bookmarks - import and backup
