I have used firefox for 13 years now and I have never had any major issues with it. but recently I have noticed that whenever I open it on my laptop, the laptop freezes and then a black screen, then a mozzila firefox crash dialog box. sometimes I am forced to hard restart the laptop then use another browser. I still want to continue using Firefox but that issue is really frustrating.

Thank you

Have you tried troubleshooting mode, or creating a new profile? The options are generally described in Firefox won't start - find solutions to follow in the various scenarios.

Once you get it running please also submit the crash logs:

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted (and Unsubmitted, if any) Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

This is puzzling — you seem to have enough resources, yet the system doesn't seem to be able to give the app the memory size requested.

What is interesting in some of these "out–of–memory (small)" crashes is the page size available reported is really small. Not sure why the system is not providing more space.

Does anything change if you start into Troubleshoot Mode, or try a testing clean profile?
