I would like to create an account but when I tap on the icon of the blank face, it just highlights like I'm attempting to copy and paste it. Leads me nowhere

Hi

Firefox Focus for iOS cannot be connected to Firefox Sync. For that I recommend the main Firefox for iOS app.

I suggest you to install the non-focus original version of firefox if you want to use sync.
