When using VPN, Thunderbird does not connect to various email servers (Gmail, icloud, etc.). How can I configure Thunderbird to connect when VPN is on?

I'm using Thunderbird on a Mac running El Capitan OSX. I have recently started using VPN (TunnelBear) and whenever VPN is on, Thunderbird idles and does not manage to connect to the various email servers. As soon as VPN is disabled, everything is back to normal. I'm not sure how ot configure Thunderbird so that it works when VPN is activated.

You need to talk to your VPN provider what's allowed, what may be blocked, and what other configuration settings you may need..
