I'm using the current version of Thunderbird 24.5.0 and I no longer get the mail icon for new mail on my task bar in windows. I've checked the properties of the task bar, went to custom settings and it's set to notification only. Anyone have an idea whats going on?

No, I don't have those settings, but I have found a fix. I downloaded the "Mail Alert" addon and that has fixed everything.

Do you have this setting?

  • Tools > Options > General
  • select : 'show an alert'
  • select: 'show a tray icon'
  • click on 'OK' to save changes
