I can no longer open Firefox. I have tried the following solutions with no luck:

I tried to uninstall Firefox so I can reinstall FF and I got this message: "FF must be closed to proceed with the uninstall" "Please close FF to continue"

I tried to download a new FF install. When I got to the Mozilla setup wizard and chose standard install I got this message: "FF must be closed to proceed with the installation" "Please close FF to continue"

I have also gone into task manager and closed the open FF processes and restarted the computer. I still could not open FF.

I have also tried opening the profile folder and deleting the "parent.lock" file, per a previous suggestion I received.

I need help.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps to uninstall Firefox.

You can also remove the Firefox program folder manually on disk.

  • (32 bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
  • (64 bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
