Another user reported a few months ago that Firefox would navigate Back to Google on its own after following some search results: Some pages, especially news sites, will go back to the previous page after 30 seconds. We didn't find a solution, but do your symptoms follow a similar pattern? (Truly random behavior is very hard to diagnose...)

You may want to run some scans to supplement your regular MSE protection. These two free tools are highly regarded:

By the way, if you want to reset your address bar search from Bing/Zugo back to Google, you can do it this way:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste keyword and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Right-click keyword.URL and choose Reset.

Note that if you haven't uninstalled the Zugo toolbar using the Windows Programs and Features control panel, this might come back.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
