It might be difficult to answer this question without access to the same webmail platform you're using.

Are you referring to the squiggly red underlines or a separate spell-check feature (e.g., spell-check button)?

Thanks for your interest. When I hit send on ShawWebmail on an e-mail,it has always then gone into a spellcheck automatically. When I have completed the spellcheck,I hit send again and it is then sent. Gary

Wow, I've never seen that on other mail sites. If it's a Shaw feature that stopped working, then someone familiar with the site could investigate. If it is an add-on feature, when you installed Firefox 8, do you recall any add-ons being disabled? You can check here:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions

The disabled extensions are displayed in gray text below the enabled extensions.

Thank you for your reply. I followed your instruction and am still confused. I cannot find the GREY area you are talking about. Can you be more specific please. Thanks again Gary

The Extensions that are enabled are listed alphabetically (A-Z), and then followed by the Extensions that are disabled. The disabled ones are in gray type rather than bold black type. If you don't see any, perhaps you don't have any disabled extensions?
