You could use the keyboard shortcuts and avoid the problem altogether.

" To restore old behavior, use normal customize to fix: (Alt+V → Toolbars → Customize) Separate, move or remove Go [go] ["Enter"], Reload [reload] ["F5"] and Stop [stop]["Esc"] buttons." http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface

Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"

  • Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
  • Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise (Space or Separator) to get two distinct buttons.

If you do not see the button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.
