How to move entries between address books and import

newsletters2

I am working with thunderbird on two locations and have problems moving contents between address books and entering new contacts into address books.

On location A I have created a mailing list X under my personal address book. I could fill it by copy/paste address and name from mails received. Then I created a cardav address book Y and somehow (ctrl + left mouse?) succeeded to drag and drop the entries from X to Y and synchronized it with a nextcloud cardav file.

Now I went to location B, created a cardav address book with the same credentials as on location A and got the Y addresses synchronized.

So far, so good.

Then I tried to enter new addresses in location B into this Y online address book. Problem - I could not find a way to add new contacts into a line with copy/paste like into the X mailing list in location A. New contacts could only be added via the "New Contact" form, no copy/paste.

Then I created a mailing list in my personal address book with the same name X. I could not find a way to copy the content of the online address book Y into this list (on location B). When I tried with ctrl-left button drag and drop, the target mailing list X was forbidden. Only copying to my personal address book would be possible. But at least this mailing list X offered again the copy and paste possibility in one line, but unfortunately the list was empty.

Then I tried it with export/import. I exported Y from the online book to a vcf file on my computer, then tried to import the file to my mailing list X, but I could not find a way to import the file to the mailing list X.

I can create a new address book and move the contents of the cardav book to it. But adding new contacts is possible only via the "New Contact" form where I cannot just copy/past addresses from emails.

Any suggestion how I can work with my mailing list contacts on both locations and easily enter new contacts with copy/paste from mails without having to use the form?

Thank You for the reply. With a local cardav book I mean the local copy of the address book which I have on my computer synced from the online address book. I have found a solution for my problems now: I created another offline address book. Then I copied the cardav contacts into this new offline address book, created a mailing list within it, copied all contacts from the address book into it. There I can copy/paste entries from e-mails. Then I can copy back to the offline address book and from there into the local copy of the cardav address book.

I do not understand. If I add a contact to my cardav (gmail) addressbook in one PC, the address shows also in the addressbook in another PC.. I do click properties and resync. Is that what you're attempting? It isn't clear. Thank you

@david Thanks for your input. Maybe my explanation was too complicated. What it actually boils down to are these unsolved problems: 1. How can I move or copy contacts from a local cardav address book into a local mailing list? 2. How can I import addresses from an exported csv or vcf or ldif file into a local mailing list? 3. How can I move or copy a mailaddress+name with copy/paste in a single step from a local email to a local cardav address book? (that is possible with a mailing list, but I haven't found a way with an address book) . 4. I have moved by accident contacts from a mailing list to a cardav address book. How can I copy them back?

Okay, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, and maybe I am too easily confused. To me, a carddav addressbook is on a server, not local. So, I don't know what a local carddav addressbook is. So, I'll skip question 1 for now,. On question two, you can import into an addressbook, but not into a mailing list.. the tools>import does that I'll skip question 3 for the same reason as skipping question 1 On question four, my experience is to highlight the desired address to copy, hold cntl key and drag to the contact list. Yet I think I'm missing something you're attempting to do..

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad all is well. :)
