Microsoft OneDrive photos of the day not displaying

Each day I get an email from Microsoft OneDrive with photos of the day, titled On this day"'. Clicking on a button titled "View all memories" on the email causes the photos from that day to appear as a new tab on Firefox. Perfect. Until a couple of weeks ago.

At that time, clicking on it caused the new tab to appear but no photos are displayed. The screen looks as if it's trying to load the pics, but nothing shows up. When I open up the OneDrive website directly, I can click on "Photos" and see ALL photos in my cloud account, and there is also a row at the top under the title "For You" which shows several clickable buttons titled "September <XXX>", "A new trip", "Revisiting <month XXX>", "Last week", etc. Clicking on each of those separately yields the same result as when I clicked on "View all memories" from the original email, which is that nothing is displayed but it appears to be trying.

Below the "For You" row is "All Photos" sections which has everything, but not organized like the "For You" row. It simply is the entire set of my pictures from which the "For You" buttons do their selection from.

I exchanged emails with the MS OneDrive support over several days, who made numerous suggestions, but none worked. We did determine, though, that the photos do appear seamlessly if I switch to Edge as the default browser, but I want Firefox as my default.

Because the photos did appear under a different browser, they suggested I contact Firefox, which I'm doing. And this is after I've tried all the suggestions contained in a google search I entered as: "firefox setting to allow microsoft onedrive photos of the day".

Understandably, I'm very frustrated and appreciate any suggestions anyone can provide. Thank you.

Hi,

That's a known issue tracked under bug 1987565. It is currently fixed in Firefox 145, which is in Nightly. This version's release is scheduled for November 11, but I'll let you know in case the fix is deployed in one of the earlier versions.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed report, it helps a lot! From your description, it sounds like the OneDrive “For You” / “View all memories” feature works in Edge but not in Firefox, even though you can access all photos directly. This suggests the issue is likely related to Firefox-specific compatibility or settings, rather than your account or the photos themselves.

Check enhanced tracking protection

Click the shield icon in the address bar when opening OneDrive.

Try turning off Enhanced Tracking Protection for the OneDrive site and reload. Some “For You” content may rely on third-party scripts blocked by default.

Clear cache and cookies for OneDrive

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data…, search for onedrive.live.com, and remove its data.

Reload the page and try “View all memories” again.

Test in Firefox Troubleshoot Mode

This disables all extensions and custom settings: Menu ≡ → Help → Troubleshoot Mode.

If the photos load correctly, an extension or setting may be blocking the content.

Check for content blocking / mixed content issues

Press F12 → Console tab while clicking the “For You” buttons.

Look for any errors (e.g., blocked content, CORS errors, or scripts failing). This can help pinpoint why Firefox fails to render the photos.

Make sure your Firefox is up-to-date This can also cause some minor issues.

Hope this helps! If it doesn't please submit a bug report.

Thanks for responding, Shirmaya!

For suggestions #1-#3 and #5, I had tried those earlier to no avail, but I tried them again per your instructions. Still nothing. I have no extensions running after disabling an ad blocker and a grammar checker.

I'm not sure about how to implement #4 - "Check for content blocking/mixed content issues". When I try to do as you recommend, the screen starts flashing blue and appears to act as if it's taking pictures along the way. I finally was able to kill this process.

In any event, when I click on the shield on the OneDrive site I see a message that says, "No trackers known to Firefox were detected on this page." This message appears regardless of whether or not Enhanced Tracking Protection is on or off.

I'm totally perplexed. . . .

Hi,

Thanks for confirming, since you’ve already cleared OneDrive’s site data and ruled out extensions/ETP, let’s try a couple of deeper checks:

New Firefox profile test

Type about:profiles in the address bar.

Click Create a New Profile and launch Firefox with it.

Don’t sign into Firefox Sync yet. Just go straight to OneDrive and try the “For You” section.

This helps confirm whether the problem is tied to your main profile or more general.

Toggle hardware acceleration

Go to Settings → General → Performance.

Uncheck, Use recommended performance settings, then uncheck, Use hardware acceleration when available.

Restart Firefox and test again.

Check in Firefox Beta

Sometimes issues are resolved in newer builds. You can install Firefox Beta alongside your main Firefox to test without uninstalling.

If the issue still happens after these, then this points toward a compatibility bug between Firefox and OneDrive’s “For You” feature. At that stage, the next step would be filing a bug report so our engineers can take a closer look. I’d be glad to help gather the right details for that if needed.

Thanks again for sticking with this, I know it’s been frustrating!

For New Firefox profile test, how do I launch a new Firefox separate from the one I currently have open?? Is the Firefox I've been working on now the one with the new profile??

Also, after creating another profile on the currently open Firefox, there appears on the screen this:

Restart

    Restart with Add-ons Disabled. . .
    Restart normally. . . .

Should I choose one or the other??

Should I have created the new profile by closing the one I had opened originally and starting with a blank tab in Firefox?

Or, having created the new profile with a unique name under a new tab and under the original instance of Firefox, should I close Firefox, then reopen it, then try to open today's photos???

Hi,

To properly test with your new Firefox profile, please follow these steps:

Close your current Firefox completely. This ensures the new profile opens in a clean state.

Open the Profile Manager:

Windows: Press Win + R, type firefox.exe -P, and hit Enter

macOS: Open Terminal and run firefox -P

Linux: Open Terminal and run firefox -P

Select the new profile you created. If you want, check “Use this profile in a new instance.”

Click “Start Firefox” — only the new profile should open.

Test OneDrive “View All Memories” in this fresh profile.

Thanks for elaborating on that. I've never created new profiles in Firefox before, so I am not familiar with all the nuances in terms of switching between them. Your patience is much appreciated.

After reading a bit between the lines, I was finally able to open just the new profile and tested it against OneDrive. The "For You" bar and "All Photos" portion come up but when I click on "View All Memories" from the email nothing from that date is displayed - same as before.

"All Photos" is still accessible and shows my most recent photos, similar to before.

It's strange, the page successfully loads the images*, but the slideshow/animation overlay doesn't seem to get built by the scripts in the page.

* You can confirm this by using Alt+V to drop the View menu, Page Style, No Style on the page.

Thanks for chiming in on this! If I understand what you've suggested, the answer is "Yes" to what appears on a new tab when I click on "View all memories" in the daily email I get from OneDrive.

Alt+V does show the set of pictures from that day, but there is no organized slideshow at all, just icon-like characters above the day's photos along with limited verbage.

I also received a comment earlier today from another contributor that referenced a potential fix to this issue under bug 1987565, due for release in November. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Hi again,

The issue should now be fixed in Firefox 144, which is in Beta. This version's release is scheduled for October 14.
