Thunderbird seems to be changing my user name to my full email address, making it impossible to log in properly. Why?
a week or two ago the program was suddenly refusing to start up, demanding a user name and password and never accepting them even though they actually are quite accurate. I eventually noticed it was trying to send my user name as my full email address, which is NOT accurate and never has been, yet I don't see how to turn that off. Even after I tricked it into letting me start a new "profile" with my correct details, I can still only receive email, not send it. Attempting to send gets me hassles me to the effect that it can't log in, because it is trying to log in incorrectly, against my wishes. Is there any way to stop this? I tried to strip the @bimshwel.com from every instance I could find in the preferences but I can't seem to get at the one that matters. It offers to let me change the PASSWORD, but the password is not the problem!

The User Name is under Server Settings in Tools/Account Settings and also in Outgoing Server (SMTP). Use the format that is required by the mail provider, which is either the full address, or just the part before @, or either one.

Ah thank you! Somehow I missed the smtp instance of it, and i am able to send email, at least to myself, from there, for now, which bodes well.
