If I download Firefox for Android do I have to get it from Google Play? I don't have a Google Play account. Also, do I have to download an app? Permissions?
I am concerned about security and want to avoid apps. They usually require unnecessary permission requirements.

Is it possible to use Android without a Google account? That surprises me.
But anyway, the normal way to get Firefox for Android is through Play. There may be a way to sideload it on your device, since there is an article about that for Kindle Fire tablets and an APK download page. No idea whether this still works:

If you try it, let us know how it goes, and remember to check for updates regularly since the Play app won't be doing that for you.
Oh, to be clear, Firefox for Android is an Android app. If you do not want to install any new apps, you can continue using the browser app that came with your device.
I don't know why it surprises you that I don't want to use Google. When I download firefox on my laptop, I don't have to go through Google. Google seems to have a monopoly on everything.

True, Google doesn't have much to say about how you use a Windows device. To minimize Google's role in your mobile life, you could consider exchanging your Android device for an iPhone.

You do realize that Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google.
