My Thunderbird has been sending and receiving messages since I downloaded it but recently it continues receiving but no longer sends messages

When you try to send an email what happens ?

What error message do you get...word for word?

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.bigpond.com timed out. Try again.
