Unable to send messages -- and it's not a firewall issue
Hi everyone,
Yikes...I was able to send emails on Friday but now I’m unable to send -- just receive. Here’s the message I’m getting:
“Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator.”
I’ve checked all my settings, contacted the network admin and I don’t have firewalls (I'm on a MacBook Pro). I’m running 31.3.0 and I’ve changed no setting in over 3 months. More details:
POP Port 110 Outgoing Port: 2525 Default: 587 Authentication method: (I changed this to No Authentication from Normal after reading a few other threads) Connection security: STARTTLS
Any thoughts? I'm at a loss. Thank you for your help!

You said: "Outgoing Port: 2525"
That is most unusual. But are you using any anti-virus? Sometimes it re-routes through a local proxy and this often results in oddball port numbers.
25 is the standard, though disapproved ("deprecated") these days. 587 is a common alternative.
Either of those would normally be used with plain unencrypted SMTP or with STARTTLS.
If you use SSL or TLS then 465 tends to be the value to use.
"changed this to No Authentication from Normal" - why? Don't guess. Check what your mail provider tells you to use. If authentication is required then it won't work if this is disabled. If authentication is not required you'll only confuse the server with things it doesn't need or expect to hear.

Thanks for your suggestions...I just tried all of them and still couldn't get it to work. I'm thinking of going down to an earlier version.
Any other ideas?
Btw, I/T at my company told me to use 2525. I am a remote consultant so they are sort of hands off with this problem right now.
Apparently you posted this same question twice. I answered you in question 1041061. Did that take care of you?
