I've had this issue for a couple days now. When in firefox and having multiple tabs open, the tab that I am on will freeze and an "unresponsive script" message will come up. When I only have one tab open, the browser will shut down completely without any message. I have already tried disabling all of my plugins, allowing the script to run longer, restarting firefox, and even uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. None of these seem to work for me. Does this mean I have a virus? Are there any other things I can try or should I have this looked at?

Try this for your mac computer: Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.

  1. (OS X 10.6 or previous) Click the Finder icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected. In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
    (OS X 10.7 or above) Click the Finder icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the option or alt key and select Library. A window will open containing your Library folder. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
  2. Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  3. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

When I go into the Crash Reports folder, there is nothing in it. As I said, it only "crashes" when i have one tab open. Otherwise, it'll open a new tab, then tell me that there is an unresponsive script. I keep getting [attached] script message. I have already tried allowing the script to run longer, and what I have mentioned above.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

I already have turned off Use Hardware Acceleration and the problem is still persisting. I will just be using the internet when Firefox will randomly open a new tab, and then when I go to exit out of it it will freeze, and I either have to force quit or wait for the unresponsive script message to come up.

I would just like to add that Firefox worked for about 20 minutes today, while in safe mode, before the unresponsive script message came up

EDIT: Second time I went on, it only worked for about 15 minutes

I have already posted the message I keep receiving...

I will mention that I was able to use Firefox for almost 3 hours (until getting offline) without an issue, but I also was mindful that I only had one tab open at a time. It seems that I have more issues when there are multiple tabs open.

Doing some research. One possibility is an ASK extension.

Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is and what it does. Also, check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder Linux:

  • Ubuntu Unity {web link}
  • Xfce: Applications Menu category sections
  • options depends on the package manager and the desktop environment

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

I have another laptop which seems to be having a similar problem. When more than two tabs are open for a period of time (maybe 20, 30 min?) this [attached, but still same as macbook] will come up

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
