I had to buy a new computer and reinstall my Thunderbird. I'm running version 158.0.1 (64-bit). When I have an email with a bunch of replies, it always opens each reply in a separate tab. In the past, the solution was tools -- preferences -- general but when I got to tools, there's no preferences option and I have clicked on everything possible there and in settings. I need the email to open as a single tab, closing a bunch of tabs is a real pain. I'd appreciate if anyone has a solution they can share.

Over the past couple of days, I've discovered new mail in my inbox but the new mail icon (with the red dot) doesn't show in the system tray.

I get notifications of new mail, which is fine if I'm sitting at the computer. But the icon in my system tray doesn't change, so I never know if mail has arrived while I was away.

I've tried everything - both in Thunderbird settings and Windows system tray settings - and nothing is making a difference.

Is this happening to anyone else? Might it be a bug?

I am using Thunderbird as an email client. I have the option set to normally send emails as plain text. If I receive an email that is formatted and then reply, the email is composed as unformatted. I wan the reply to be formatted.

Is there anyway Thunderbird can detect formatting and automatically format the reply the same as received?

How can I reply to an already formatted email so that the reply is formatted?

We're planning to switch from Outlook to Thunderbird, but we have a hard time in harmonizing font sizes on text and signature. One of the issues is that fonts can be set to textual values tiny, small, medium, etc. w/o knowing what it corresponds to in pt. But lets explain what we tried so far: - Under Settings/ General / Language&Fonts, we defined Calibri 12 as default, what we repeated under Advanced for 'Latin' & 'Other Writing Fonts' - Under Settings / Composition, we defined Calibri / Medium for the HTML Style - The HTML-signature is defined using the Calibri 12 font But when creating a new message w/ these settings, the result is terrible as you can see in the example: disregard the fonts' color, just look at the font sizes.

Is there any simple solution?

Just moved on from Microsoft email. Hadn't tried Thunderbird in a few years and wanted to give it another try. It is all connected and working via an IMAP provider.

Issue is the arrangement of the folders. Sent, Trash, Spam and Drafts are sub folders of Inbox. Not a show stopper, just seems different and slightly inconvenient. Would like to pop those out so they were hanging off the account title. I found a 10 year old article about this that said the arrangement of these folders is dictated by the IMAP server. If this is the case, then I guess it is what it is.

Hi,

In my one account in Thunderbird, I still have the old POP folders, that was a different account. I also have an IMAP account, both have the same address. The pop one does not work but the folders are there, I use them to look old mails up, so far so good. When I sent out an email with my IMAP account, the sent mail goes into the sent folder of the IMAP account, so far so good. BUT when I click on that sent mail and click on reply, it replies to the same address that what it already was sent to, now here comes the problem. THAT copy of the mail, I called the NEW sent, does not go into my sent folder. It goes directly into the sent folder of my old pop account. Even though everything on the IMAP account is standard, re-sent mails are not placed in the IMAP account sent folder. What am I doing wrong here, I know when writing the mail is that I can choose the send address and if I change that it goes in the IMAP sent folder but why is it standard on my old POP account, and why not on the IMAP account even though the IMAP is the standard?

Situation: Several Earthlink accounts using IMAP in Thunderbird. Earthlink/mindspring folders show the same folders as webmail. However, Thunderbird includes (by default?) "Sent Spam" and "Virus Blocker" folders. These are not visible in Earthlink webmail.

The folder subscribe function doesn't appear to do anything.

Deleting the msf files from the profile and restarting Thunderbird recreates the MSF files, and the empty, non-existent (on webmail) folders persist.

Have had this issue for a very long time. Would like to know, just to assuage a tiny bit of OCD, how to remove the folders from the list displayed for the account(s) on Thunderbird.

Thanks in advance. M

I want to be able to left click a link & open in a Firefox private window. It always opens in a regular browsing window. The only way I have found to do this is to right click the link & left click "copy link location" & then paste in a private window address bar. I do not want to use a 3rd party program or extension & I don't want to create another Firefox profile either.

I type enter and there is an extra blank line

Like this

I can't seem to find a way to stop it.

It doesn't affect bullet lists:

  • Bulleted list item
  • Bulleted list item

But I can't provide a tidy chunk of information, e.g. when providing my Address to someone (where bulleting doesn't make sense)

Probably something obvious - I tried from 'Format' menu changing from 'Paragraph' to 'Body Text' but it doesn't seem to stick.

FOUND IT: From MAIN APPLICATION window Menu...Edit...Settings...UNCHECK 'Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text by default' I must have checked it at some stage (or maybe it's the default)

Sometimes I enjoy a conversation with myself...but in any case maybe someone else could find this useful.
