why dose Thunderbird not import more then 3 emails from an mbox file

Hi, i am new to Thunderbird and am trying to import my mbox emails into Thunderbird. i have pointed the app to the folder and found the mbox files. the app imports the mailboxes but only seems to show 3-5 of the emails! each mbox file has about 2000 emails and its key for me to keep these for my records.

has anybody seen this before and is there a solution other then moving to Outlook?
