24 has downloaded without my approval. How do I keep 22.0? I do not want to lose the Javascript toggle.

How to I remove the 24 upgrade? Next time I start my browser, it says it will install it. I do NOT want FF without the ability to toggle Javascript off and on between pages.

Hello,

In Firefox 23, as part of an effort to simplify the Firefox options set and protect users from unintentially damaging their Firefox, the option to disable JavaScript was removed from the Firefox Options window. However, you can install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as No-Script (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required), QuickJava (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content) or SettingSanity (adds back removed options for JavaScript, Advanced JavaScript Settings, loading images, and showing the Tab Bar).

If you still really want to downgrade to 22, you can visit Install an older version of Firefox, however I wouldn't recommend this as it may mean your computer is vulnerable to security exploits.

Hope this helps!

Curtis

Thank you for your reply. I am still using 22, because I did not want to lose the Javascript (and image) toggle. However, since 24 decided to download itself without my approval, I need to know how to prevent it from installing itself with my next browser restart.

you should probably go ahead and apply the update - curtis has provided multiple ways in his answer to toggle js & images in firefox 24 and above. with the settings-sanity addon it will be 1:1 to how it's done in older versions that you're used to and with quickjava it's probably even more convenient, since it lets you add a button to toggle these settings anywhere in the interface...

Thank you both. I will still wait on a browser reset, since I have had no problems with 22, and want to get through an online event first, but I have bookmarked the SettingsSanity page for use after completing the update, since those toggles have been a critical part of my online computer use.

You should always stay up to date for security reasons alone, if you need to disable Javascript then you can use the about:config preference or install one of the many add-ons that restore it.
