I manage a website with a shopping cart solution where, at one point in the checkout process, a user is directed to a page with links where they can download mp3 files. The files are stored in a password-protected separate directory. When a user chooses "save link as", they are prompted for the user/pass combo. Once they enter the user/pass, nothing happens (this is the point where we'd expect the download to start). You can repeat this process many times with the same response, OR you might get lucky and something "kicks the tires" and it starts to work randomly. No explanation.

Interestingly, the following can also happen: user left-clicks link like normal, to open it up. They get the user/pass prompt. They enter it. A new browser page opens up, but then.. nothing. No file loads, no error, nothing. But then, sometimes THAT works, too. No explanation. But very rarely on the first try (I don't think ever, during my testing).

Any ideas? FF is the only browser I have this problem with, and I have to suspect it has something to do with the password protected of the files, since other (non pw-protected) links function fine.

Thanks!
