I have Windows 10.

When I write a new email it doesn't detect anyone from the address book.

If I manually select someone it is highlighted in red and has an exclamation mark.

Any help would be appreciated.

sounds to me like the email address you have entered is invalid in some way. could you have a space at the beginning or the end of the address perhaps

I have checked the contact list and it appears the email address is in the Nickname section with the email section blank, which is why it doesn't recognise the name. I imported the address book. How do you think this has happened and any idea how I can rectufy this apart from cutting and pasting each one individually?

When you import from a file, which I assume you did. Particularly a CSV file the process asks you to verify that the selected columns are mapped to the correct data. My guess is you did not complete that step, so should do it again and this time ensure the fields are correctly mapped to the correct columns.
