Firefox (on a MacBook Pro, OS 10.14.5) rapidly stopped working today. First, one open page stopped updating (webmail), but others (e.g., weather) still worked. Soon, progressively, nothing worked, and it wouldn't open new pages, links, or bookmarks. I downloaded a new version, 106.0.1, but that dmg file wouldn't open: "no such file or directory" (despite ostensibly containing 135 MB). Yet that version seems to be what's running now. I don't know how recently my Firefox got updated; possibly an update is the problem, but why newly today is unclear. I'm now using Safari, since Firefox is kaput.

My computer appears to meet the system requirements for 106.0.1. And the only suggestion I found in the Mozilla support FAQs about my problem, which was to address firewall issues that might be blocking connections with external sites, seems inapplicable, in that my firewall is and was turned off.

New development:

I booted from my peripheral back-up drive, to which I'd cloned my MacBook Pro maybe a week ago. The clone had version 105.0.3 of Firefox, which ran just fine. So I rebooted from my MacBook and downloaded that previous version of Firefox. Which is now running fine.

So: the issue seems to have been an incompatibility between Firevox v.106.0.1 and my MacBook Pro, with its current OS, etc.

I'm so relieved to have a functional Firefox version restored that I'm willing to ignore Mozilla's warnings about vulnerabilities and instability with the previous version. Seems like there's more vulnerability and instability with the new version, at least for me.

Try visiting this link and review the system requirements specifically for macOS: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/106.0.1/system-requirements/#mac

I am a macOS user so if this still doesn't help or clear the issue, make sure you checked if you have enough hard drive space and 512 MB as we well as the processor running your macBook. Try updating your operating system, if you are only able to, to later versions. It should work on OS 10.14 though so maybe it is a storage issue. State the version or the year the macBook came if you can for further support.

I hope this helps!

Thanks. Here's more info: my Mac PowerBook is from 2015. It's got a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor. It's got 124 GB (of 250) available flash storage. I hesitate to update the system because of the likely unintended consequences for other applications and "feel", especially since OS 10.4 is supposed to work (as are even older systems).
