I have had this problem for several weeks. When Thunderbird tries to retrieve emails from my ISP's server, I get the message at the bottom of the window that says "Connected to mail.myserver.com..." but no emails are ever retrieved.

My phone's email client has the same settings and it retrieves mail just fine.

I've tried changing my email password and seeing if that will fix it when I enter the new password into Thunderbird, but that doesn't work either. I've tried compacting my inbox etc. No joy.

I just tried again with the Developer Tools -- Error Console up and I see this message:

18:07:10.715 An error occurred executing the cmd_getNewMessages command: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8055000a [nsIMsgIncomingServer.getNewMessages]" nsresult: "0x8055000a (<unknown>)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js :: GetNewMsgs :: line 2753" data: no] 1 globalOverlay.js:103 goDoCommand chrome://global/content/globalOverlay.js:103:5 MsgGetMessagesForAccount chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js:1517:5 oncommand chrome://messenger/content/messenger.xul:1:1

I'm guessing this is related. Is there a fix?

OK I found the answer once I Googled for this error code -- Must have been Norton -- Looks like an update for it was pending and I guess it was holding up the works for some reason. A restart after the Norton update fixed it.
