This is for a Facebook friend that wants to run the app Theta Control that I developed: It provides features not available by any app on Android or iOS. I did some investigation now myself.

Of all Brazilian mobile operators that I checked online, only at Vivo I found Firefox OS phones. The cheapest is the Alcatel One Touch Fire, which is offered for 339 BRL (ca. 100 EUR). The price is steep, at least in Europe it would be.

Indeed, the Alcatel One Touch Fire can be upgraded. For convenience, there is an unofficial v2.2 build: https://vegnuxmod.wordpress.com/hamachi-alcatel-otf/
