WOW! Mozilla is really great ;-( It only took me 3 days to find this forum.

Okay I read the post about version 29. Problem is I got 32.0.1. There is NO Option under tools nor is there options under the 3 bars at the top left.\

I've done everything suggested and nothing works. Created exceptions and whatever else I could find.

I need to keep cookies that store my log-ins. I HATE having to re-log into my gmail, YouTube and banks every time I open the browser. This sucks.

This is going to force me to go back to Safari. Chrome has it's quirks too.

I use to love firefox but lately I'm falling out of love.

Can someone help? Please. Thanks Allen

Thanks for the reply, jscher2000. I'll try to give some feedback later as soon I'm free.

As for the connection thing, I meant the installation requires users to be connected to the internet (the file was downloaded from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?utm_source=getfirefox-com&utm_medium=referral, an it's showing as 'Firefox Setup Stub 32.0.3.exe' when in previous versions it's only 'Firefox Setup 30.0.exe'). In other words, I'm not actually downloading the core installer, but one which downloads the installer. I believe it was supposedly try to help in reducing server load or something. Though, I'm not fond of it.

The sites that I use are facebook, youtube, web3.castleagegame, gamefaqs, and other similar ones which I believe aren't connection-based ones (not that I'm familiar with any, though). Either way, I'm trying out the 'No Proxy' now, and will report the results sometime later.

Hi Allen, "Options" is used on Windows; on Mac, it's "Preferences":

"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Privacy

Cookies should be saved indefinitely if you have either

  • "Firefox will: Remember history"
    or
  • "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history" with either
    • "Keep until: they expire" AND "Clear history when Firefox closes" either
      • Not checked
        or
      • In the corresponding Settings, NOT set to clear Cookies
    • "Keep until: I close Firefox" AND "Allow" exceptions set for the sites AND "Clear history when Firefox closes" either
      • Not checked
        or
      • In the corresponding Settings, NOT set to clear Site Preferences

... and you are not using a private browsing window for the site.

That said, cookies also can be cleared by Firefox add-ons or external privacy/cleaning software, so if all your cookies are gone when you start Firefox up again, that could be the problem.

Hi jscher2000

Thanks very much. That did it. Regards Allen

I was using v30.0 and have always used the 'Never Remember' option, and never encountered this problem. Recently, I updated it to v32 (which now uses a connection-based installation) and had to turn the other (unnecessary) options to save me from having to log in every 2-3 minutes (for a particular sites which I've never had any issues with since the beginning).

I re-installed back (properly) the old one, and now it's the Inspector tool (right-click), which normally should pop-up the inspect window, isn't giving any response (clear cache, restart, etc; nothing works). Not only that, I couldn't open a "history" site (via right-clicking on the 'back' arrow near URL bar) on a new tab (by mid-clicking the mouse scroll button). BUT! The aforementioned sites that I've mentioned above never log me out even after 2-3 hours of my testing.

Then, I decided to re-update back the browser to v32, and problem persists within mere minutes. Why force users to turn on the history settings when one do not wish it? (I'm using v32 currently, as I need that inspector tool AND the ability to mid-click to new tab of a previous/"go-back" sites).

I sincerely wish to know if there are other real solutions/fixes to this bug.

Hi Kazuyuki, the original problem in this thread is losing cookies between Firefox sessions. I think your issue is different.

Regarding private browsing and session cookies, if I recall correctly, there was a change regarding third party cookies in a recent version:

  • Previously, Firefox disregarded any block on third party cookies in private windows, and accepted them in private windows for the duration of the current session to maximize compatibility.
  • Now, Firefox implements your block on third party cookies in private windows, so if the site requires third party cookies to keep you logged in, then you can't stay logged in.

For best results, set Accept third party cookies to Always, then try turning automatic private browsing back on and see whether that fixes it.

I'm not sure what you mean by this:

Recently, I updated it to v32 (which now uses a connection-based installation)...

What is a connection-based installation?

I'm curious because in past thread, it was discovered that some sites, such as Yahoo and AOL-network sites like HuffPost, seem to be allergic to one particular connection setting: "Auto-detect proxy settings for this network". To work around that, you need to change your setting here:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default is "Use system proxy settings" but you also can try "No proxy" to see whether that stops the frequent logouts.
