everytime I open thunderbird to get my emails, it freezes my computer up and i have to turn it off and reboot. for three days now Ive been unable to get my computer. Norton tells me it kicks out the network when downloading??? and to call you

I would suggest disabling email scanning in the anti virus product. If that works then it is not here you need to be.

BTW I have no idea what "kicks out the network when downloading" means
