So I just installed Firefox on my new laptop, and every time I download something, Firefox creates a "Desktop" folder on the desktop, and sticks the download in there. I used to be able to download directly to the desktop, but with this version I can't. I have tried Tools>Options>Save files to, but whenever I click the browse button and select my desired download location(Desktop under the "Favorites" heading), Firefox ignores it and sets the path as C:\Users\User1\Desktop\Desktop. Is there any way to fix this? It's incredibly irritating.

See if this works for you as it does for me.

  1. Create a new folder on the Desktop labeled Downloads (or any other name),
  2. Open Tools > Options -> General
  3. Under Downloads hit the Browse button and select the new Downloads folder that you just created.

Firefox wants a "folder name" for downloads, specifying the "Desktop" alone or "Favorites" won't do. When you try to force the issue, the folder name will mimic what the user tries to specify. In your case, it created the "desktop" folder on the desktop. Yes, that is different from previous versions of Firefox, but that change happened many versions ago - so it isn't really "new" any longer.

Change the download path in Firefox's options menu.

Does this fix your problem?
