Firefox is regularly freezing for 10-20 seconds
I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with Intel i7-2620M and Optimus technology running a Win7 64 bit version.
What happens: Firefox freezes every 3-10 minutes for 10-20 seconds. Even writing this post it happened 2 times.
What I noticed:
- Only Firefox is affected. All other programs (Thunderbird 5 included) run without problems.
- When playing a video-clip or playing a flash game, the sound stays live and continues to run.
- Number of open tabs doesn't matter.
- No problems with Chrome.
What I tried:
- Disabling all extensions - didn't help
- Disabling all plugins - didn't help
- Starting a new profile - didn't help
- Only 1 session file - checked, no duplicates
Some specifications:
- Fresh Win install
- Fresh Firefox install
- All drivers installed and no errors in Device Manager
- Installed avast! antivirus (free version)

Try using the Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems article to try and narrow down the field.

Clearing cache seems to have solved the problem. Many hours passed and no freeze. Sometimes the easiest solution seems the hardest...
THX again
I have these same issues, and no amount of cache clearing, cookie deleting or add-on disabling seems to fix the freezing. It seems to mostly happen when clicking on things (whether it's playing a video, opening a new tab, or browsing a website).
I suspect that the Anti-virus software's web monitoring feature is causing the browser to freeze. Turning it off helped solve the issue for me!
I had the same problem but i went into options then options then security i put never remember history and cleared all history and it stopped freezing up hope this helps
Also this blog post and the extension mentioned, seems to be a fixup for places.sqlite
