Firefox won't save tabs on closing

I have done everything suggested on your help pages but firefox only saves my tabs intermittently and I am getting sick and tired of it. If this can not be fixed I will have to change to IE which I had to do on my work computer. (Please note that this is occurring on three different computers with three different operating systems).
