Why is Thunderbird putting emails from my inbox into my deleted folder?

I operate a number of IMAP email accounts on Thunderbird. With just one, a load of my emails from my inbox end up in my deleted folder and I have to move them back again. I have set my deletion settings so that, if I delete an email, it is permanently deleted, so none of the emails I have deleted are in my deleted box. But it is still full up with emails from my inbox I don't want deleted. Any ideas how I fix this?

Probably your antivirus. I see bitdefender and their toolbar mentioned a fair bit recently. It is a shame that such a regularly failing product is so popular

Hi Matt I don't think I've got any antivirus on my Mac - certainly not Bitdefender. I think it must be something to do with the settings on that particular mailbox, as it isn't happening with any of the others I use with Thunderbird, but I can't work out what.
