How to prevent media playback (radio) from stopping after a few minutes?

ampdubai1

Upgrade of new Firefox Beta now causes media playback to stop. BBC radio and podcasts now stop after a few minutes. They used to play continuously no problem at all, even when screensaver on. What has changed?

Hi

I think we have an underlying issue that we need to look into as Firefox Preview is rolled out. As such, I have filed https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/10292 and will work with the team to get this resolved.

Hi

Are you playing this media when you have a strong WiFi signal?

Hi Seburo. Thx for taking the time to reply. Problem does not occur with regular Firefox or with Chrome (I don't use other browsers), only Firefox Beta. Signal strength is not an issue. Nor is screensave mode. Playback stops after c.120 seconds if touchscreen not touched. If screen touched then media play for an additional 60 seconds before stopping. Seems to be a bug somewhere that prevents continuous streaming. Have tried the same BBC radio broadcasts on Android and iOS - each with the same result. This leads me to conclude that the glitch is with the Firefox Beta upgrade, because all worked OK before I installed the newest version.

Ok.

What version of Android is installed on your device?

Hi

Are you signed into a BBC account to listen to the audio?

No, I was accessing its content via browser. I have reverted to the standard Firefox, ie not Beta, and it's working OK. Clearly a glitch somewhere between that latest release of Beta and its predecessor.

I wa just trying to find the similar content so I can test it here, but I am glad to hear that you have a solution.

None of the content I was trying to access (namely anything available on the BBC Sounds: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds) worked, yet it did on Chrome. Apologies if I hadn't made that clear. I uninstalled that upgraded Beta version of Firefox and went back to using the old browser. Voila, problem solved. Once again, thanks for reaching out. Not sure if you have a method of relaying this UX info to Mozilla, but please send it if you can.
