Problem syncing (lots of) bookmarks

I'm using Android Firefox v 54.0. The first time I installed it a month ago I ran sync and to my surprise it did sync all my bookmarks, which are probably well over 5,000. However since then, when I try to sync again it doesn't sync any recent bookmarks.

How can I delete all the bookmarks on Android and try it from scratch again?

Btw, I have to say, the entire Bookmarks section on Android is a shadow of the functionality of the Bookmarks on desktop. Cannot organize , cannot sort, no "description", no keywords.

I forgot to add, the capability is there to import bookmarks from the native browser. Why there's no "import bookmarks from HTML file"? It's not the perfect solution, but it would be far better than what a lot of people are experiencing it seems.
