How do I turn tabs completely off??

On one profile on my computer, the tabs are off but on the other profile on the same computer I still get all these tabs and have to turn them off. They are duplicate home page tabs.

Does the same set of duplicate tabs show up if you launch a new window, for example, using Ctrl+n?

If yes:

You probably need to edit your home page address. Firefox allows multiple home pages separated by a "|" character. On the Options page --

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options

-- select General in the left column. Toward the top of the page, in the Startup section, check the Home Page field:

Look for a vertical bar character. As a simple example with short URLs:

https://mozilla.org/|about:preferences

The bar(s) definitely can be hard to spot with long URLs, but when you find the first one, delete everything after the bar and then finally the bar itself.

Firefox will save the edit when you tab out of or click away from that box.

Don't click the "Use current pages button" or you'll add the Options page to your home tabs and have to edit again. This hopefully will be fixed in an upcoming release.

You can test by clicking the Home button or launching a new window. Success?

Thank You. I think my problem was that I wasn't tabbing out of the box, I was clicking on "Use current pages". The bar and everything after it came right back. Thank you so much. I have been trying to fix this for over a year. I should have checked her first!!

How can I get rid of tabs entirely? If I want to look at a second URL, I want to open an entirely separate instance of Firefox. I never want to see a second, third or any other tab. I want to get rid of tabs entirely. I don't like them. They cause me to make mistakes I can avoid if I can just get rid of them. I know this is not forward thinking. I know it confuses some people. I just don't like, don't want to see, and don't want to use, tabs.

Hi tomnorman, your question is different from the original poster, and it has been asked many times over the past several years. Bottom line: you need an add-on, but I am not aware of any currently supported add-on for this. An older add-on is discussed in this thread from the Firefox 14 days (2012), I haven't tested to see whether it works in Firefox 45:

How do I completely disable tabs?
