What should I do if I can't view previous bookmarks, add new ones and get an error that I can't restore any of the bookmarks backup files?

After the last update, my bookmarks disappeared and i can't add new ones. I Followed the the instructions to restore automatic backup files. Every time I try, with any of the files, I get the error "Unable to process backup file". Also, I followed the steps to make sure I can add new bookmarks. The file places.sqlite is not read only but i still can't add new bookmarks. However, I can add new folders. What should I do in this case?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
