there is a folder called bookmarkbackups in profile directory what is bookmarkbackups folder for? can I delete the file inside?

Firefox uses the bookmarkbackups folder to store backups of the bookmarks, so you do not lose them in case of problems with the places.sqlite database file that stores the bookmarks.

Current Firefox versions show the number of bookmarks in a JSON backup as part of the name of the file: xxxx in bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx.json, so you can use that to select a backup.
