shortcut on desktop
Firefox has recently begun placing shortcuts of itself on my desktop. I have to log out, and log back on as an administrator to remove them. Then I have to log out, and log back in again. Anyway, this is an intolerable nuisance. I want it to STOP. If it continues for much longer, I will go to Chrome.

That is odd. Where do those shortcuts go to?
What were you doing at the time? surfing, watching a clip, reading something . . . .
They go to my desktop, as if I just did a new install. I do any number of things when using Firefox.
How do I get it to stop this behavior? Must I reinstall or something? Is there an alternative browser besides Chrome you would recommend?

No, I mean if you click on the shortcuts, what happends? What pages open?

It just did it again. One or two more times, and I will have to leave Firefox. What alternative browser do you suggest?

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar.
I don't understand. If I create a new profile, what will happen to my buttons bookmarks and so on. And if you want me to create a new profile, are these links just telling me how to do that?
I have not been able to identify what I am doing in particular. The shortcuts appear when I am not paying attention. I am just browsing with my browser.
Something about the original profile could be doing this. By creating a new profile, we can see if it also has the problem.
If the new profile has no problem, we can instruct you on how to Copy files from the old to the new profile.
Okay it just did it again. I was just hanging out not doing much on Michael's site.
I created a new profile and lost all my information, even the ability to write here. I was able to bring back my original profile.
I don't know. This seems like I am starting over. Perhaps it is time for a new browser.
