"Loading Message..." for nearly 24 hours. No mail received. Whasup?

My thunderbird seems to be locked in a "Loading Message ..." and is not receiving any e-mails (nor sending). Activity Log says it's bringing 1 of 13 important downloads up to date, but doesn't seem to be moving. This is stretching my "techno abilities". Got a solution?
