Hi everyone!

Today I found an addon I did not install. It is called TAARExperiment.

I cannot find it in https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/ and search engines seem not to be particularly useful. I just found that https://github.com/mozilla/taar but it is not so explanatory.

What is this addon and what does it do?

Thanks for your answers!

Hi

I had a chat to the Mozilla staff working on this and can confirm that it is a legitimate study.

As per this article you may have opted in to take part in various studies that help us make Firefox even better. TAAR is one of these studies, designed to measure how people use and select add-ons in Firefox.

I think I never opted in to studies. I actually cannot follow the instructions in the link you posted because I have no "Allow Firefox to install and run studies" option in my privacy settings. I guess this is due to the fact that my Firefox comes as a linux distribution package (Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela and Firefox 56.0). I should somehow have been warned of this installation.

The addon is also installed in my Firefox under Windows. Also in this case there is no optout option in the privacy settings. Is that because it is not set in English?

You can remove or disable the TAAR Experiment extension if you can't disable this study via the about:studies page.
