Can't Remove Unused Accounts

tonymnace

I'm trying to remove a couple accounts that I no longer use in Thunderbird. A window keeps popping up asking for a password, but the mail service is no longer available. When I click on the red delete button for that account, nothing happens. I've deleted all the mail in one of them which I was able to do as I thought I might need to do that first, but I still can't delete it after that. The other one won't even let me delete the emails. How do I delete these so I stop getting asked to put in a password for accounts that are no longer valid and I don't want anymore?

What is your operating system? I will assume Windows. Two things I would try:

- Restart Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode (see <Help | Troubleshoot Mode>). This will temporarily disable all add-ons, in case one of them is misbehaving. Now try deleting the accounts.

- See this conversation about a similar situation. The cause had to do with Thunderbird being originally installed under an operating system Administrator account, but the current user only had regular user permissions. Perhaps you are in a similar position.

OK, tried both of those but neither worked.

Try booting to safe mode and then delete them.

I have exactly the same issue and exactly the same results - opened it under Administrator, rebooted in Safe Mode and opened as administrator - still the same effect - clicking on the red Delete button top right and no response whatsoever.

I think i setup an account wrong, so i go into account setting. I click on the account. There is a big red button that says 'DELETE'. I click on it. Nothing happens.

I tried all the solutions mentioned above. Still the problem persists.

Same Problem as others, i can't delete accounts, the big red delete button does nothing, can't add SMTP servers, can't select and make new accounts default..nothing is working. tried all solutions.

Edit: found a fix, had to do a complete reset and re-install, after uninstalling TB, i went through and deleted the appfilies folder found at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Thunderbird

Me too. nothing on red Delete button.

Hello, I do have the same problems with version 155 or 156. For me , it seems that the problem appears after i had a new box manually when thunderbird can t find the imap and smtp server. After that, i can t add/modify/delete anything on the accounts created. I ve tested with thunderbird version 156 , i had the same résults. With the version 153 ESR, everything is OK .

Cheers
