Firefox 66.0.3 64bit, Win 10 Home 64bit. Just installed Firefox and am tweaking it to my tastes. No extensions or add-ons installed.

A few problems I'm having, despite making changes in Options:

1. First tab that opens when Firefox starts is ALWAYS the "Take Firefox with You/ Enter your email to continue to Firefox Sync" which I do NOT want, yet it is always there.

2. The second tab which auto-opens is the "Firefox Privacy Notice / Get a Firefox Account," which I've read and also do NOT want, yet it is always there.

3. Any new tab I open is ALWAYS the "Top Sites/Recommended by Pocket/Highlights" Home page despite my having NONE of this checked.

In Options>Home>Firefox Home Content, all I have checked is Web Search, and that's it.

In Options>Search, my only One-Click Search Engines checked is Google, yet all are reset to checked when restarted.

What's going on? Even after resetting MY options, and restarting Firefox, none of them remain and the browser goes back to what I just described. And I have full Admin rights.

Did you check the home page setting in case multiple pages are set?

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

If you have hidden some content on the Firefox Home page and you do not keep the changes on the next Firefox start then there might be a problem with saving the preferences.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
