First format your SD Card, then go to Configurations >> in Storage session look for Enable USB storage change to true, when you connect your Phone to your PC unlock the phone you will see a message that your Sd card was deactivated, then you can manage your files

did you verified if is enable the USB storage? Test the USB of your computer. Did you try connect in other computers?

Yes like I said in the original post USB storage is enabled and I tried it on other computers.

I don't have any other devices here but I don't think this is a problem of SD card as it is perfectly recognized by my ZTE device so I think this is a bug in the OS. What I can't understand is that it worked perfectly before...

Please go to your Settings > Media Storage and scroll down to the bottom.

Make sure that Share using USB is turned on.

I understand that Enable USB storage is activated in your settings, as you mentioned in your previous posts. However, you did not mention anything about the setting Share using USB. Have you already checked this setting as well?

These are two different settings, and both of them must be turned on for the device to connect to the computer.

To verify that Share using USB is also activated, please go to Settings > Media Storage and scroll all the way down to the bottom.

Make sure that Share using USB is turned on.

Yes sharing usb is also enabled. I tried to disable both "Enable USB storage" and "Share using USB". Then I reboot and enabled both again, but it didn't change anything.

Hmmm... ok here is something we can try to verify it is the os: We can try to reinstall the drivers if you have a sdcard slot on your computer: Refresh the drivers

1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.
2. On the top menu, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.

I'm running Linux and the drivers are Ok. Furthermore I tried it on other computers (at least 3) and the SD card was not recognized. But the SD card on my phone is recognized by Firefox OS so why should I reformat it? Thank you for your help!

What format is the SD card ?

Can you try reading the card in a Windows computer does that recognise it and does that identify the card format.

This may not be relevant but one of my thoughts is that it could be MTP as I mentioned in another thread

I have exactly the same problem with an exception that my SD card is working fine when connected via card reader. I can copy both ways files, play music on the phone etc. However I have no access to the card when the phone is connected by the usb cable.

The phone is Alcatel OneTouch Fire. I'm also running Linux OS on the computer, the phone with this card (2 GB, sold with the phone) was working before. I rarely use the usb transfer so I'm not 100% sure, but the problems could have started after the upgrade to Firefox OS 1.1.

I have tried many times to switch on/off both "Enable USB storage" and "Share using USB", remove card, restart the phone etc. I have also reformatted the sd card - no success.

I have tried two different cables and three different computers (Linux/Win XP/Win 7) - no success.

The device is recognized by the computer: [ 4847.530571] scsi4 : usb-storage 1-4:1.4 [ 4848.529207] scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access Linux File-CD Gadget 0000 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 [ 4848.530084] sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 [ 4848.536450] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk

but the storage card (here /dev/sdb) is "not a mountable filesystem".

Sometimes reseating the SDcard helps. I have had issues with that on various devices.

Also try a different USB cable or possibly reseat the connection for the USB cable on the computer side. After placing the USB cable in and out of my computer, the socket is worn and I have to jiggle the cable a little for the device to be seen.

Have you tried also installing ADB ( http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html ) on your computer to see if you can gain adb access to the device and the sdcard through that method? To note, you would need to enable remote debugging on the device ( settings -> device info -> more info -> developer -> remote debugging )

ADB would also allow us to get logs when you are trying to access the sdcard; and it might be a way to figure out in more detail on why you are unable to access the sdcard.

The only other thing I can think of is that the sdcard might not be formatted in a format that the computer can read, and that may be why you are getting the error message.

I would highly recommend though that if the first two did not help, then installing adb, so we can troubleshoot the issue further.

Please read my post carefully. I have tried two cables and three computers. I have tried to format the card and to test it in a card reader. It works in the card reader, so it is not formatted in a wrong way. It had to be in and out of the phone couple times. The phone itself *IS* connected properly and recognized by the computer. Everything points to a software problem.

I will try to install ADB and access the card this way.

kmiernik, Sorry about that. My response wasn't to your situation. It was addressed to this thread in general.

You do seem to have a different situation than the one posted in the thread. Having adb will help in other ways than to access the sdcard. It might help to troubleshoot the issue separately in another thread as Andrew suggested.

ADB will allow us to get the logcat (logs) for the device when trying to access the sdcard. That might help us figure out why you don't have access to the sdcard at that time.
